STAIRCASE HOUSE STITCHERS UNVEIL CREATIVE TEXTILES

Local voluntary embroidery group, Staircase Stitchers, recently unveiled two exquisitely created bed-hangings which are now on public display at Staircase House.
The completed works are part of a ten year project the Stitchers are involved in to create a total of six bed-hangings, along with various other pieces of replica 17th century textiles.
The group of volunteers meet twice a month and were formed in partnership with Stockport’s Heritage Trust. The group has been working under the guidance of Jane Dew, embroider for Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, to learn more about the historic embroidery techniques used in a 17th Century house (13 April 2010).
